Jack, I bought about eight of your solid turquious Discus from your add in TFH. The year was 1985. The most beautiful Discus, I have ever seen. I started in the hobby in 1980, with gold fish my mother-in-law gave me form a ping pong throw at a festival in Gold fish bowls. I have had a tank set up since then, I still have discus my favorite. I would be interested in having a distributorship out here on the west coast. Would you e-mail me, I spoke to you years ago about my fish shipment, you were great. Happy New Year. Bill Van Horbek

Hi Jack. I'm just beginning my venture into the Discus world. Right now I'm doing as much research and learning as possible. My goal is to husband 4 Discus in a planted 55 gallon tank. I'm very excited and tempted to go out and buy my entire set up and some fish, but patience is prevailing :). I look forward to the day I contact you and place my order for two red pandas and two striated reds.

dear jack, we have interesting problem we use tap water in our rearing tanks PH-7.5 lowerd to 5.8 using phosphoric acid and dechlorinated using stress coat ,the problem is that the water that comes from tap is 3DH and the water in the tanks shows no hardness at all when tested how can this be when it is both the same water. PS is it possible that i could be getting a false reading from my test kits due to something in the water as it is impossible for the hardness to just vanish !!

Hi Jack,

I regret never having met you in person or seen your hatchery. I've been a fan for a long time and read your TFH "Ask ack" religiously. Great site by the way. Oh, this may be very "after the fact", but I thought your article in THF on Dr. Edward Scmidt Focke (following his death) was very touching and informative, it was obvious you two were great friens. Anyone who loves discus lost someone to whom we owe a world of thanks.

I just finished writing to Gabe about a distributorship for your discus. I will be taking my family to Key West the week of April 8, 2001 and would love to meet you in person and see your hatchery if this is feasible.

Thanks In Advance,

Stephen G. Delp

Dear Jack:
Don't know if you'll see this, but I had to say it anyway. I've known about you and read your literature for over a decade now. Your contribution to the Discus world is legendary. Thank you so much for helping to bring this beautiful fish into the mainstream of the aquarium hobby. I never would have believed it would go so far. The colors-the breeds-it is truly amazing where it has gone. Your website is a thing of beauty. I'm setting up a couple of tanks now to add a few new colors to my collection. I'll see you next month. Again, thanks.

I have been involved in tropical fish for about twenty years now. About six years ago I got the Discus fever. SHortly after I purchased some of Jack Watleys Discus. These fish grew out to be some of the most beatifuly shaped and colored Discus I have ever seen. IN fact one of the Pandas became some tame and personable he actually became a family pet. I wish to extend my thanks to Jack and all the people who put in the hours to produce these exciting strains.

I have been a great fan of your pages in the Tropical Fish Hobbyist. I have 2 Discus which a friend bred for me they are a year old and spawn all the time, but being a community tank have little hope of raising their fry, they have had them to just about off the log but it gets to much for the parents. I am having a 117 gallon tank made and with just the Discus and 15 Cardinals they might do better. This is a good site.Happy fishing around.from a KIWI

I have just four moths in the discus' world, so I'm really enjoying this new hobby I've started with. Actually I have thirteen discus which I'm not sure what their names are, I mean red turquoise, pigeon blood etc. I think I have four red turquoise, a trio of I don't think they're Marlboro but they're like you know, pink. A couple of like blue cobalt, three pigeon blood. One more which its name in spanish is "escarlata", well I was told this was its name probably in english is "scarlet".
Unfortunately here in Mexico is quite difficult to find discus like yours, but I hope some day get one of yours.
It has been very difficult for me to keep my fish in good conditons, 'cause you know PH, water conditions in general. So far I think we've done well 'cause it just have died 5 out of 18 discus since I started with them and my last "casualty" was a month ago, which means I passed the crucial point.
I'm realising how they're growing and I hope some day they can reproduce themselves.

I like your site and I'm gonna visit you here very often. I wish I could buy any of your discus but you have no distributors here in Mexico.
See you, regards.

I have just discovered the world of the discus. Currently I have a few tanks with some Jack Dempsey Cichlids. In the future I would like to get another tank and fill it with colorful discus. I have been hesitant in the whole idea due to the rumor of the difficulty to raise them. This website has really encouraged me to begin my discus experiment. The colors of the fish are amazing, there must have been some use of the photoshop program.

Dear Jack,

I was lucky to spend an afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale with you some 10 years ago. You were most kind and generious with your time and the knoledge that you shared.

I have vistied your Miami hatchery site 2 times in the last month as I decided to re-kindle the love for discus that burned deep within. I want you to know that in my opinion Gabriel is an excelent person to intrust your highly respected reputation with. In short Gabe is great! I picked up so many tips durring the conversation that we had. I must have asked 100 questions (several more than once) and Gabriels patience and explinations gave me the confidence that I needed to know that I should not fear, but look forward to "getting back into" discus. Best of all was after we shook hands and said goodbye, Gabe said "remember, I am just a phonecall away if you need any advise.

My fish are doing excelent. I have never had a tank as beautiful as this one. I have 2-Blue Diamonds / 2-Snakeskins / 2-Red Stridated Turquoise and on my second trip I got a fish that I call "Hot Rod Sally". This fish has both turquiose and red stripes on a yellow body. I sure am a happy hobbiest!

Thanks Jack & Gabriel!

Yours Truely,
Howard M.

Jack/Gabe, ordered three blue-snakeskins and two red-snakeskins from you in sept-2001.They are doing fine---one of the reds is growing twice the size as the others, because he/she is always the first at the lunch/dinner/snack table.

Take care...Thomas.

I hope to retire in 5 yrs. and do this full time. Incidentally, I am a handicapped electrical eng. and also am interested in designing truly state-of-the-art equipment for both tropical and salt water enthusiasts. Now I am developing and soon to market a focal plane light meter, color temperature meter, and flash meter along with a shutter speed tester for the large format photo market (that's guys who use 4"x5" or 8"x10" or even larger film). The quality of such shots is unbelievable and I thought this might lend itself well to your business since you have perspective control with these types of cameras since the film and lens are not at a fixed parallel to each other. My partner is a bio-chemist and is very interested in this project with the aquaria (not the present photo project).

Thanks, Vaughn Martin

I am very glad to have seen your site. I went and got Diskus for the perfectionist and really enjoyed it.
I have a 55 gallon community tank now and was thinking of converting it to a discus habitat.
I hope you will hear from me soon. I really like the Blue Snakeskins, also the golden panda...
We shall see. thanks again.

Have been to hatchery 1 time and really did enjoy what was there.
The workers were hgelpful and ready to accomindate
. I am handicapped and was surprised when I found out that they did have wheel chairs to use at no cost.
This was greatly appreciated

I am currently setting up a 75 gallon discus tank, and I am also trying to
start an aquarium small business. I noticed that you do not have a
distributor in the midwest. I would be interested in being a distributor
for your company.Any information that you could send would be helpful.
