Dear Mr. Wattley,
I`m a discusfanatic myself since 4 years and of course I got your book too. It helped me alot breeding an taking care of my discus. Now that I got a computer, I was searching in the www for people who are also interested in discusfishes and I was glad to find you. Here in my hometown I`m a member of a aquarium club with 55 members. 12 of them are taking care or they are breeding discus. I`m breeding red turcoise and pigeonblood. Soon I`m going to breed blue diamond. My real favorite discus are the original Heckel discus, but the water here in this area is real bad, so it would be alot of work and money to bread them here. Soon I`ll have aquariums with all in all 1400 liters in the basement plus my 500l and 300l aquariums in my appartement. So I have enough room for my fishes.
So, thats a short note from me. Go on with your high quality discusbreeding and I hope to see any of them in a shop here in germany, because I was looking for it, but nobody had any.( In an area about 400 kilometers from around my home )
Best wishes for the future

Dear Mr. Wattley,
I forgot to tell you and your other guests, that I`m going to have a homepage about discus myself soon. You`ll get informations,Pictures, links about my own experiance about brreding and taking care. Of course also from my friends in our club. When it`s finished I´ll let you know right here. Hope to here from you or anybody of your guests who is interested in discus in good old germany. maybe somebody will send me an E-mail. I`ll answer. Promised.

When I was in Winnipeg, Manitoba my girlfriend and I purchased 5 turquoise Jack Wattley Discus about the size of a silver dollar. As time went by my girlfriend and I broke up and I moved to Alberta and she kept the tank and discus. I often think about them...I sure miss those discus! I plan one final move in two years then I would love to fill my 90 gal tank with your discus again. Maybe I'll get lucky and find them in Alberta one day. Cheers.

Hello, Mr. Wattley
I am glad to have found some of your writings and information so early in my quest for knowledge about the care and raising of the Discus.
You are very simple and direct in your explainations and still manage to convey your love of these wonderful creatures . I am glad that you have put out so much info and I hope you continue to produce more writings and great looking fish.

contests that you are the master at what you do. The help that you have given

Jack, Due to the fact that only a few of us will ever have the opportunity to visit your
hatchery, I would like to see you offer a video tour where you could explain what is being
done and why. If you would include a schedule of lectures and personal appearances on your
website it might enable those of us who would like to come see and/or meet you to plan to
attend. In addition a list of your books that are available and where they can be
purchased would be helpful on your site. A tips section where things like the garlic
treatment could be passed along to other Discus fanatics. I don't know if you have covered
the how and why you developed different varieties but it would be interesting to at least
this fan. You have a good site, keep up the good work. Also, do you ever offer wild caught
fish for sale, if not could you point me in the direction of where I could find them.

Thank You

Your fish look ok but are EXTREMELY expensive. How can you charge $30-$75 for
fish that are only 1 1/2 INCHES in size? Which strains do you breed? Which strains
are imported? How long do you quarantine the imported fish? Thanks for writing your

Dear Jack, I've been a discus fancier for about 25 years now,and probably will be forever .They are truly the kings of the
tropical world.Ihave also read 'Handbook of Discus'and find it very informative. However i have an interesting pair of fish
that i'd like to know more about.Ihave a pidgeon blood and a wild heckel which are exibiting all the right sign's of a pair
in the making. How difficult is it to cross strains, especially when it comes to breeding heckle discus?I'm hoping i've got something here because they would probably be an interesting combination.A short reply would be much appreciated.
Thank you.By the way the site is great.

Dear Mr. Wattley,
I'm Indonesian student studying in the US. I'm a discus mania.
I've heard your name since high school but this is the first time I found
your website. It's a nice website. You sure have great discus.
I have several pairs in my home country. I learned a lot about
discus from your books. I tried to breed them some years ago but I failed.
It became my obsession since then to breed them. I would be very glad if
I could learn from you.

My fine Mr. Wattley,
Ten years ago, I started with two savage discus from brazilian amazon. Latter on, I bought two of your fantastic turquoise discus and them came the red ones. I really becama addicted to them and now I'm looking for others. It's very amazing to see your discus coupled with our native ones.

Fantastic to find the site on the net. The pictures are breath taking and the fish are of quality like i have never seen
. Here in New Zealand i have read all of your books and have raised and subsequently bred all of my discus (6 pairs) using the techniques described in the books.
Unfortunately i have yet to see any of your magnificent fish in my own tanks as we never seem to get them in this country...more the shame. Anyways thanks for the imspiration.

Mr.Whattley I am a rabid discus fan and have been for four years. Your expert advice has been well taken. Could you lend a hand to a novis. What is the formula fed newly harched fry? My discus eat about 90 % of their spawns. I removed one and they lived in the tiny floating tank I made, but the only thing I knew to give them was egg yoke. Is this a good idea? I know it is better for the parents to raise them at first, but what can I do ? Your expert advise is needed and very much appreciated.

Dear Mr.Wattley, I am a 19 year old discus hobbyist and since I started keeping discus 2 years ago it has become my greatest desire to breed these most beautiful fish. Despite everyone I talked telling me that discus would be much too difficult for me to breed I simply had to give it a try. Thanks to the information in your books I suceeded in getting 7 pairs of discus to spawn a combined total of 17 times in the last 2 months. In addition, I have made my first attempt to raise discus artificially using the inspiring information of yours in the book "Discus Today". Today my discus fry have started feeding on the egg yolk mix and I am VERY excited. I owe all of my success to you and hope to have the opportunity to meet you someday. Thank-you for all your huge contributions to the discus world.

MR WATTLEY,
I am a 12 year old fish breeder. When i was 8 i was introduced to the facinating world of discus. They caught my attention. What became a hobby now is an obssesion. I started of with 2 sunshine discus and a 55 gallon tank. people laughed at me when i talked about fish and my teachers got extremely annoyed. i now have a 95 gallon tank housing 5 heckels, a 240 gallon tank with 11 discus 4 of them dragons 7 of them colbat blue. i have 6 25 gallon breeding|hospital tanks 4 of them contain breeding pairs of heckels and colbat blue.and my biggest tank a bare 400 gallon aqarium with well over 150 baby discus. I am just pointing this out because the people who laughed at me when i was 8 now buy discus from me, and several of my teachers have my discus in tanks in thier own home. You have been my greatest inspiration through the past 4 years in wich i have this so called "fever". i have made well over 900 dollars and i am one of the highest known young breeders where i live. I am well known throughout the stores that recieve my stock and get calls from a lot of people who comment on how well thier discus turn out. Not bad from a 12 year old huh. sincerly DMITRY TSEKHANOVSKY

I am just getting into the hobby of discus keeping and am finding it totally fascinating. I have read some of Jack Wattley's "required" reading and have found him to be very informative and helpful. I am just surprised that more hobbyists don't look into the discus. So far I have found them to be fairly easy to keep and they all have their own personalities! I guess I'm hooked.

Dear Mr. Wattley, I enjoyed your website and appreciate your devotion to this hobby. I purchased seven discus from your fish farm in Miami about 10 months ago. They are all doing well and look beautiful. There is no comparison to the fish I see for sale in the local aquarium stores. Your partner, Gabriel, helped me select the fish and advised me on how to care for them. He has been extremely helpful. I look forward to perhaps meeting you in person one day. Thank you.

Jack, I have a pair of breeding discus (a "cobalt" male and a "red tourqouise" female) - the sixty or so babies should be free-swimming later today. Your book, _Handbook Of Discus_ has been a wonderful resource. It has been fascinating to watch the pair perform "textbook" parenting. It's quite exciting and I love sharing the great pictures with friends. Thanks for your commitment to educating people like me and to breeding some gorgeous fish.

I HAVE KEPT DISCUS FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS. I HAVE LIMITED KNOWLEDGE EXCEPT FOR A FEW BOOKS AND SOME MAGAZINE ARTICLES
I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO READ. I HAVE NOT LOST INTEREST IN MY BABY'S ONLY THE DESIRE TO KEEP THEM IN THE PERFECT ENVIROMENT. THEY ARE IN HARD ARIZONA TAP WATER AND SEEM TO BE DOING GREAT. THEY ARE WELL FEED. TODAY I HAVE TAKEN SOME
RECIPE'S FROM THE NET AND TRIED TO MAKE MY OWN FOOD. IT CONTAINES 1.5 lb BEEF HEART .5lb LIVER 1.4oz KRILL-E 1oz SPIRULINA PLUS AND 4 TBLSPN WHEAT GERM WILL TRY TOMARROW TO SEE IF THEY LIKE. BUT THEY ARE USED TO JACK WATTLEY DISCUS, DISCUS DELIGHT, TETRA BITS,SOME GROUTH FORMULA FROM A LOCAL BREADER SOME FLAKE AND ANY THING ELSE THY WILL EAT. MY ONLY CONCERN OTHER THAN HARD WATER WITH PEAT IS MY DESIRE TO KEEP MY BABY,S HEALTHY AND ALIVE.
MY TANK IS 100gal. WITH ROCK, SOME PLASTIC PLANTS, 2 303 FLUVALS RUNNING THROUGH A DOUBLE PENQUIN BIO FILTER WITH PEAT MOSS. AND ONLY 6 DISCUS. TRY TO CLEAN ONCE A WEEK BUT CANT ALWAYS KEEP UP WITH THAT SCHEDULE. WORK A LOT. THE FISH SEEM TO BE HAPPY. THEY COME TO THE FRONT OF THE TANK WHEN ANYONE IN THE FAMILY WALKS UP. I ALSO HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND A 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND MY WIFE THAT HAS ADOPTED THE FEEDING AND WE ALL ENJOY FISH. ANY HELP ON KEEPING DISCUS IN HARD WATER WOULD BE GREATLY ACCEPTED. Soon I`ll be put on also about 80 pics of my tanks, discus and other fishes that I have and breed. Hope to hear from you.
Warmest regards

Your fish are superb as always, however due to the exchange rate, they work out far more expensive than locally bred fish. I charge the equivalent of $9.00 per top grade Discus. I still consider you to be the pioneer of Discus breeding though. Thanks for all the valuable work.

I have found your site most informative. I hope to purchase a number of your discus when my 225 gal. tank is finalyy set up. Right now I have 8 in a 55 and 1o gal. And realize they need more room to grow properly, although one Red Turquoise grew about 3" more from its 2.5 " size in 6 weeks. I have it in the 10 gal now, hoping the others will grow now that" Big John" has been moved. Regards Kevin F Giles

Dear Jack & Gabe,
When i got wiped out by the "plague" your advice was invaluable, you were so helpful & sympathetic with my desparate phone calls.
The fish I have from you recently (green mambas, snakeskins & blue diamonds)are ALL doing great ,eating like pigs & growing fast,
the wild red spotted greens that you gave me are also beautiful fish, all the stock I have from you are unrivaled in their color & shape.
Jack, special thanks for your signed book, it is far & away the most informative book I have been able to find for these "kings of fish"
I look forwards very much to meeting you when you are next in the NYC area.
Thanks again

Jack, I talked to you on 7/8/98 or 7/7/98 and informed you that I was interested in keeping discus fish. I also informed you that my PH was at 8.0. I checked the city water in the town of Antioch, IL. It was also 8.0, I bought the peat moss from home depot and started to run it through my tank just like you said, ( by the way i was impressed to talk to you directly and i really appritiate you taking the time to talk to me ) My PH only droped approx. .2 I am still at 7.8. So I started testing differerant water that was available to me. Sparkling Spring Distilled Waterchecked out at 6.2 !!! So I plan on doing my water changes with the water that delivers itself! As soon as I feel comfortable with my water quality I will place an order. I am also waiting for the catalog you are sending me. Thanks again Jack!
Sincerly Yours,

I got into discus about five years ago, starting with two of your books and 5 of your stunning Tefe X Wattley Red crosses. After lots of work and waiting, I am now breeding my own second generation fish. I've enjoyed your fish, books, as well as advice in the "Ask Jack" column in TFH magazine. How unfortunate that "market value" does not encourage persons to breed and care for quality when it comes time to try and unload all those baby fish. But breeding such a remarkable and beautifull fish will have to be its own reward. Thanks!
